The Hour of Code
![]() | ![]() |
Dear Parents,
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
That’s why our students in Grades 2-5 are joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-14). Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. This year, we're joining students worldwide to reach 100 million students!
Our Hour of Code is a statement that PS 69 is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge.
Unfortunately, there were not enough families signed up for the "Hour of Code" workshop.
Google Drive Accounts
Students in grades 3-5 will have a Google Drive account on ps69k.org. Each student will or have received a Google username. Students are only allowed to use the Google Drive. The other components of Google have been disabled for safety reasons. Currently, the students will produce and store their work on Google Drive. Students will be shown the features of Docs, Sheets & Slides. I have spoken to the students about the appropriate uses of Google Drive and the Internet. If your child has engaged in or displayed inappropriate use of the Internet, including Google Drive, his/her account will be deactivated. Please contact me at lfernandes@ps69k.org if you have any questions. |
Half Day 11/13/14

How do I go places safely on the computer? 3-5 Students explore what it means to be responsible to and respectful of their offline and online communities as a way to learn how to be good digital citizens. What kinds of responsibilities does a good digital citizen have? |
